High Mountain through Potrerillos
High Mountain through Villavicencio
Departures: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Schedule: 7:30 to 19:30 pm (approximately)
Both routes are very similar, but they differ as to the route taken to reach Las Cuevas. You can choose to visit the Villavicencio Natural Reserve with its impressive thermal hotel, or the Potrerillos dam, with Cacheuta Valley.
Along both routes we will visit Uspallata, a place steeped in history and culture in the Huarpe precolonial times, that was also a meeting point for the Army of the Andes before crossing the Andes, a few centuries after that. It constitutes the limit of the Andean foothills and the beginning of the Front Range. The tour takes us through The Vaults (Las Bovedas), some curious adobe buildings where the cannons were melted during the Liberation Campaign.
We continue through the towns of Picheuta, Polvaredas and Punta de Vacas, for access from there to the village of Los Penitentes, one of the most important ski centers in the area. From the chairlift you have a spectacular view of the landscape of the area. Later we have the Inca Bridge, with the river Las Cuevas and nearby the Mountain Climbers Cemetery (Cementerio de los Andinistas).
Almost on the international frontier we’ll visit a viewpoint from which you can see the Aconcagua. Going even a step further is the Laguna de Horcones and the Aconcagua Provincial Park, surrounded by the valley of Horcones. Following the International route we’ll visit the complex of the same name and the location of The Caves (Las Cuevas), on the border with Chile. There we will return by the same route.
