It should be noted that the “Solomon K21” is the largest mountain half marathon series
world level, and in Argentina there are 18 stages and again Mendoza is present for the eighth consecutive year.
It is a championship with roots in the Argentine Patagonia, composed of 25 races that take place in Argentina, Spain, Colombia and the Sahara Desert, whose objective is to strengthen knowledge and respect for the environment, generate spaces for exchange and improvement of human bonds, and improve the quality of life through sports.
San Rafael, characterized by giving the best fruits of the vine, is the ideal setting for a circuit that combines sand, steppe and unparalleled visuals. To return every year to this soil is to renew the adventure.
Around 600 runners from our country and from bordering countries participate each year of this competition, which consists of three distances, 21k, 10k and 5K.
The Atuel Canyon, is the second great attraction of the province of Mendoza, just behind the Aconcagua hill. It is a natural accident of about 500 million years that thanks to the erosion of water and wind generated different forms that can be seen in the passage through their roads, with walls of 500 meters on each side. The rocks of the canyon are mostly volcanic. Among the geoforms, there are the “family of elephants”, the “owl”, the “skull”, the “procession of nuns” and the attractive “wax museum”. Go discovering those images is part of the great attraction of this race.
The other great attraction will be a circuit in which no kilometer is equal to another. The corridors will pass through areas with a lake, a river, rock formations, prolonged climbs and descents with mountainous terrain, sandbanks and a passage -for the 30k- by La Olla, an area that is used for motocross races, with a similar floor to the clay. A path for nothing monotonous.
The start is scheduled with start and finish at the Hotel Smata on the shores of Lake Nihuil. The circuit will have a technical route, bordering the Atue Canyon (located just 37 kilometers from the city of San Rafaell and 265 kilometers from Mendoza Capital), with several kilometers of costering by the Atuel River and the Valle Grande Lake, a footpath on the edge of the canyon that allows to keep running, several vertiginous descents to pure adrenaline and a last part with sand to finish a challenging race. The 21k travel through absolutely inhospitable places, that those who participate will have the possibility to discover.
The winners of this edition qualify for the Salomon K42 series in the month of November at Villa La Angostura.
It is not a sporting event anymore, it is also tourist, for this reason people take as an excuse the race to come to visit San Rafael, a destination with a great wealth of landscapes and excursions. Therefore, the area has a great availability of accommodation such as cabins, hostel, camping and hotels where you can take advantage of different recreational activities in family, such as Rafting, Canopy, zip line, rowing, etc.
