The Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development under the National Bird Day, produced a report on native birds of Mendoza and performed validation of the National Conservation Strategy Crowned Eagle, with the provinces of Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan and San Luis. Since 1982 was established on October 5 National Bird Day for the purposes of promoting reflection and concrete action related to their protection. The choice of date is intended to commemorate St. Francis of Assisi, the saint lover of nature and, according to tradition, was talking to the birds. To mark this anniversary different activities during October to highlight the importance of birds have been organized for biodiversity. Currently, Argentina has 120 species of wild birds at serious risk of extinction of a total of 1,000. On 5 October at the Mendoza Zoo Validation regional Conservation Strategy Crowned Eagle was held with the participation of the provinces of Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan, San Luis and Mendoza, to define priority actions for the region and generate a joint agenda problematic treatment and conservation programs, sharing experiences and integrating common objectives in wildlife management and conservation. In addition to SAyDS participated in the 2nd Provincial Meeting on Technical Conservation of Nature (TECONA), on 5 and 6 October by the scientific, academic and civil society sectors, as part of the conference commemorating the month of birds. The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development through the Department of Wildlife Directorate of Renewable Natural Resources has been working on various conservation actions of the species among which stand out the agreement signed between the SAyDS and Conservation Program Bird Rescue raptors (Buenos Aires Zoo); work assisting a pigeon born in 2012 Ñacuñán Book from eagle reintroduction in the Reserve in 2008; and conservation work in the Reserve Forest Telteca.
