Mendoza offers a large circuit of churches and important points for people who enjoy religious tourism and the Annual strong> Tour of the strong> Seven Churches strong>. We will name some of the most important churches, basilicas and cathedrals in Mendoza City strong>, which can be visited in a tour that will not take more than three hours.
CATHEDRAL NUESTRA SEÑORA DEL LORETO strong>
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Loreto strong> is located in front of the Plaza Sarmiento strong>, between the streets Moreno and Lavalle strong>. It is one of the oldest in the city and still retains its original architectural structure, despite having gone through several modifications. It has three naves with baroque style decoration, and has as its main attraction five stained glass windows in the sacristy strong>, which were originally made in France strong> and brought to Argentina strong> strong> by the first bishop. It used to be a church, but it was declared a Cathedral in 1934.
BASILICA DE SAN FRANCISCO strong>
It is located at Av. Spain to 1418 strong>. It is a basilica with three naves, with 90 cm thick walls and 12 pillars with Corinthian columns. The basilica is National Monument strong> since 1925 for sheltering the image of the Virgen del Carmen de Cuyo strong>, which is Patron strong> and Generala del Army of the Andes strong>, and also the depository of the Command Staff of General San Martín strong>.
TEMPLE SAN JUAN BOSCO strong>
The San Juan Bosco strong> temple was built in 1965, but the foundation stone was placed there in 1958. It is located at the corner of Córdoba and La Rioja streets strong> , and in the same block is the Salesian school. Both the facade and the sides have murals made by Salvino Spinnato strong>.
TEMPLE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA MERCED strong>
The temple is located in the street Montecaseros to 1647 strong>, and was built between 1898 and 1908. It is a large building, with a large dome and a plant with three naves. The dome is covered with tiles with Marian colors, and the main facade is made of brick, divided into three porticos. It is also located in the center of the city, and another attractive option if religious tourism is sought in the City.
JESUITAS TEMPLE OF THE SACRED HEART strong>
This temple is located at Av. San Martín 746 strong> from the city of Mendoza. What most characterizes this religious order is that they are very evangelizing and that they drive the education of the people strong>. It should be noted that Pope Bergoglio strong> is Jesuit strong>.
BASÍLICA NUESTRA SEÑORA DEL ROSARIO strong>
The temple is located in 2107 Salta Street of the City of Mendoza, where the image of Mary is venerated under this invocation of the Rosary, is a new construction completed around 1959. In 1961 the pontifical coronation of the image was made, and in 1981 instituted the first Sunday of October (Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary), as Day of the diocesan Church. In 1987, on the occasion of the visit of Pope John Paul II to our province, the only image that presided over the liturgical act was that of Our Lady of the Rosary.
SAN AGUSTÍN PARISH strong>
Parish located at Calle 9 de Julio 33 in Mendoza City strong>. In 1946 the Agustina Order acquired the land it currently possesses. An old mud brick house. There were two buildings there, the rooms of the friars and in the other the kitchen and the dining room. In the front room all the parish activities were carried out. At the back of the lot a large area of land that was used as a football field.
The 1985 earthquake caused irreparable damage to the old house, which is why the construction of the new parish house began in 1986, and in March 1990 the construction of the new church began. On September 28, 1991 the inauguration mass of the temple is celebrated.
