Starting at the Subsecretaria de Turismo or at the Tourist Information Center II at the city council, located on the corner of Garibaldi and San Martín streets. The places visited are the Plaza España, a bright space with an exact balance between gardens, monuments and shiny sidewalks, all adorned with majolica. The next point is the Plaza San Martin, with the Basilica of San Francisco and the chamber of the Virgen del Carmen de Cuyo – patron of the Liberation Army, where it kept the sceptre of command of General San Martin, where lie the remains of his daughter Merceditas and her husband’s. Around this square there are various banks, and there should be emphasized the building of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Province of Mendoza, which invites people to stop to admire its facade with its neoplateresco cutting, and its grooved columns with mythological stories. Next, there is Las Heras Avenue, which catches the attention by its architectural heritage, the Popular Street Museum and its commercial movement, especially of typical regional products. The tour ends on the Paseo Sarmiento, to rest and continue admiring the beauty of the city: the Independence Square provides an opportunity to appreciate water fountains with water and light ballet, symbolic sculptural groups, the Museum of Modern Art, a children’s playground, and a picturesque arts and crafts fair.
