It is a totally flat way. The height ranges between six hundred and seven hundred metres above the sea level. The entrance to the Telteca Forest is through a road between the dunes, that is why it is necessary to enter in four-wheel drive vehicles and accompanied by a guide from the Municipality hired previously at its headquarters in the city of Lavalle. This tour of two hundred and thirty-three kilometres is done in a day. It can be done from April to October.
Starting from the Great Mendoza through Acceso Norte and Provincial Route 24, to the Villa Tulumaya (head city of Lavalle). Then through Route 34, passing by a beautiful agriculture oasis up to Costa de Araujo and then towards the Northeast by National Route 33 and 142, leaving the oasis and entering the Desierto de la Travesia. At 108 kilometres from the capital, you will get to the base of park rangers of the Telteca Forest Natural Reservation and Altos Limpios. It is impressive to the travellers the existence of a virgin forest in such a dry area, and also the huge dunes without vegetation of the Altos Limpios.
Returning by the same route, 24 kilometres from there, there is a detour to the right that leads to San Jose, it is possible to arrive at the Huarpe way (to the west), which leads to the National Route 40, which returns to the city Las Heras, to spend the night in a hotel in the city of Mendoza.
