It can be done starting from Tunuyán or Tupungato. It is an integration circuit with the department of Lujan de Cuyo, since it can also be accessed through Alto Potrerillos.
This journey requires a day. It is operable all year long.
It starts at the town of Tupungato and goes northeast by the Provincial Route 86, paved up to San Jose, then compacted dirt, and connecting with the Provincial Route 89. The tourists can see a beautiful combination of fields planted with alfalfa, barley and potato, in addition to the imposing presence of the Cordón del Plata, with its snow and glaciers, and the view eastward of the cerrillada and then the plain. Several farms and livestock stays characterize the journey. These are traditional in the area and the visit is nice, prior permission may be required in some of them. After that, you can go to a place called El Mirador, which is the highest point in the journey, with the possibility of visiting the hot springs of the ares, old oil wells, and then return to the path leading to the tourist colony Las Vegas, already in the department of Lujan de Cuyo.
From there you can reach Potrerillos where you will take the Route 7 eastwards, to return intercepting Route 40 near the city of Luján, and through that road arriving to Ugarteche. There you should take the Cerrillos Road (Provincial Route 86) to return to the town of Tupungato. All the way from Las Vegas is by asphalt road.
