The road is uphill until you reach the town of Las Vegas. Taking Provincial Route 89, a section of snail shape begins that goes up to the viewpoint of Estancia Las Carreras, from where you can see the whole valley, lake and mountain range, with the Tupungato and Tupungatito volcanoes as protagonists. Nearby is the Quebrada del Cóndor, which is why it is possible to see a specimen in its natural habitat. The valley is surrounded by Cordón del Plata to the west, and the Precordillera to the east, a spectacular landscape.
The descent consists of 35 KM that run through the beautiful ranch Las Carreras, flooded with landscapes that contrast the plantations with the mountain range, and culminating in the town of San José. The route is of consolidated gravel and in any of the two senses that is made, from Tupungato to Potrerillos, or vice versa, it is an incredible walk with one of the most beautiful landscapes of Mendoza. The ideal is to get in a car from Potrerillos to the valley of La Carrera and from there cycle the section you want to achieve by route 89 because to make the full journey you have to have a very good physical training.
