The Circuit “San Rafael” starts in San Rafael city, which provides excellent infra structure as well as an important and diversified offer of services. It is formed also by the Cañón del Atuel, and other dams and reservoirs made by Man in order to produce electric energy and to organize the irrigation system with the water from Agua del Toro, Los Reyunos, El Nihuil and Valle Grande.
One of its virtues is that at a short distance from San Rafael city, there are many different leisure activities available: trekking, horseback riding, photograph safaris, mountain biking, all mountain, jet ski, sailing, canoeing, snorkeling, wind surfing, water skiing, kayaking, rafting, salmon like fish and pejerrey fishing.
There is also the possibility of visiting some traditional wineries and tasting excellent wines at Suter, Valentín Bianchi, las Tinajas, Covisan, Jean Rivier, la Vendimia, Barral and Roca, Lavaque or Rafael Salafia. In addition, you could visit places that produce and sell dry and fresh fruit, vineyards and farms where there are rural tourism activities available.
In the island of the Diamante River, the Natural History Museum keeps valuable anthropology, archaeology, mineralogy and paleonthology collections.
Going a little further, it is possible to discover the beauty of places such as the Volcano Overo, which is and extinct crater, “la Cueva del Indio” (Indian cave),“La Laguna del Atuel” (Atuel Lake), and the Sosneado valley.
Every year, the Fiesta Provincial del Turismo, the Provincial Tourism Festival, is celebrated in this city.
