Every year during the month of August, various wineries of the east wine area send their samples to the CODEVIN (Broadcasting Commission and Evaluation of Wines) to conduct an assessment of all labels and define the best regional exponents. The particularity of this event is not a competition: the idea is to highlight the wine production in the east of Mendoza and help improve the quality of it.
Each year about 150 samples arrive, which for a month are tasted by 15 tasters. The wines are evaluated, and then proceeds to pick the best 15 exponents according to the color, smell, mouthfeel and other attributes. The tasters never take knowledge about what winery are they tasting. Note that in the last editions was detected a low yield of grapes per quintal, in order to improve the quality of wines. In turn, every year they get better results.
The CODEVIN was formed in 1994, it is a non-profit organization and is made up of oenologists East Zone (consisting of the departments of Junin, San Martin, Rivadavia, Santa Rosa and La Paz). After evaluating the various samples received by the wineries, the entity proceeds to creating promotion programs for the different wines of the area. In addition, when returning the samples to each hold a technical report with recommendations is attached to consider.
At the end of a general report of crops and wines it is also presented, for which CODEVIN brings together vintners, oenologists, technicians, special guests and the general public in a great lunch in which all selected wines are tasted. For more information, you should contact the organization through the fanpage of the event.
