The Wine and Spirits International Competition (Vinus) is held every year during the first week of August in the city of Mendoza. The first editions were hosted in the department of San Rafael, but then decided to move the event to Mod Hotel in the capital city. As the name suggests, it is a competition that is among the 12 best in the world, so it is well rated on the World Wine Ranking. At least 20 of the 100 best wines in the ranking had already been recognized by Vinus above.
During the last edition, in 2015, it featured the participation of more than 500 labels from different countries: Argentina, Uruguay, Esana, Brazil, France, Colombia, Germany, United States, New Zealand, Slovakia, South Africa, Australia and many more. The evaluated wines receive a Silver medal, Double Gold or Gold, which is the highest category for top-rated wines.
Wines with a higher score to 89 points get a sticker and approval to publish the photo of the product and its features on the official website. The jury consists of renowned personalities of the wine industry, both in Argentina and in other countries, in addition to sensory experts, agronomists, press, oenologists, sommeliers and renowned dieticians of Mendoza.
Vinus is considered one of the competitions in the world that best fits the reality of a wine in the media world press. The event is sponsored by the National Institute of Viticulture, Bodegas de Argentina, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences UNCuyo, WAWWJ and many other organizations related to wine, plus large media.
