The Murgas Encounter is held every year during the first days of November in the province of Mendoza. It is a gathering of Uruguayan style street musicians, who have gathered in different scenarios and perform different activities for groups and the general public. Each year the event features special guests coming from the country and from neighboring countries to participate.
Among the most interesting activities include workshops and lectures by musical directors, murga, makeup artists and important figures in the genre. During the days that lasts the event, various local and provincial murgueras groups are presented in different parts of the province, depending on the site chosen to host. Generally, activities in Mendoza are made to be the town with more audience in the province.
The event came at the initiative of the Murga The Swirl, one of 12 Uruguayan style street musicians that are currently consolidated in Mendoza, and already has more than 8 concretized editions. In addition to presentations workshops musical arrangements, corporal expression, dance murguero styles, makeup and related topics are held. In closing the meeting, the festival takes place, with music, dancing and lots of colorful celebration.
Murgas interpret his show and interact with the public, inviting him to dance. Every year the meeting has many concurrent, having surpassed 1,300 people in previous years. It is an event for the whole family, where everyone can go to dance and move to the sound of murguero pace.
