The Evinsur is an event held in the city of General Alvear since 1996, and consists of an annual assessment of regional wines by industry professionals, oenologists and specialized tasters. They test the organoleptic characteristics of all southern wines from the towns of Villa Atuel, Real Father and Jaime Prats.
The venue where the competition is held is General Alvear Fairgrounds, and extends over three days. The first day unfolds a whole technique aimed at professionals and industry producers, while the second day is the time for the main tasting. On the third day the event ends with a dinner accompanied by a folklore show and dances.
Every year the Evinsur brings together nearly 400 attendees who can taste, evaluate and enjoy with a large group of wine professionals who taste 10 samples selected by the Center of Winemakers. In total, 85 wines among reds, pinks and whites, generic wines and varietals, presented by about 30 wineries are tasted. The organization is in charge of Winemakers Centre General Alvear and the Winemakers Centre of the city, and the race course for Technician in Enology and Viticulture.
This is a very important event within its field since the area has few climatic and soil conditions for the proper development of the vine, so being a very dry area during the driest years the volume of grain is low and the production declines. Despite all this, the producers know how to overcome obstacles and work every day for quality wines, with excellent results.
