The Andean Theatre Festival is an important event in the province, which takes place every year during the last week of September. The meeting is part of the Festival Circuit National Theatre Institute, and includes both national and international, with visits from neighboring countries such as Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and even European ensembles. The activities can be both free and paid, but usually the charge is symbolic and has a high value.
The festival lasts a week, which plays from everywhere and of all genres are presented. One of its objectives is to position Mendoza in the calendar of the Latin American international festivals, besides promoting cultural development and brotherhood between different countries of Latin America.
The works are made at different places of Mendoza acclimated for this purpose, as Bustelo Auditorium, the Green Space Luis Menotti in Godoy Cruz, the Quintanilla Theatre and the historic Teatro Independencia. They also have outdoor performances, in venues such as the Plaza San Martin instead. The festival takes place since 2006, and year to year is expanding its geographical coverage, reaching developed throughout Argentina.
The event has a lot of local programming, allowing groups of independent theater and lots of history to show their work and to share and generate experiences with other theater groups from around the world, closing the borders. It is a way to encourage art and make it available to people.
