The National Cueca Dance and Apricot Festival are held every year in the district of La Dormida, Santa Rosa in the province of Mendoza. The date varies between the months of January and February, but originally was made in January. The venue is the Sports and Social Club eastern California, and is an important event because it is one of the first national festival of the province.
It already has more than 33 editions concretized, and every year brings together more than 10,000 spectators per day. For three nights musical performances occur by local, provincial and national artists. Academies and dance groups who come to dance to the audience are also presented. One of the most awaited moments is the election and coronation of the Queen of the Cueca and Damascus, held near the end.
In addition to performances and food stalls of crafts, with typical local and regional products they are installed. The festival was born in 1973 with the aim of helping the health centers of the department. The two elements that includes the name are typical of this area: the delicious apricots and cuecas as a distinctive tune of the region.
The entrance is usually symbolic, and the proceeds go to sports institutions department. For climatic reasons the festival had to be canceled several times because it is prone to floods and storms zone.
