The Festival of Our Lady of the Rosary of Huanacache is held every year in the area of the lakes of Huanacache. Devotion to the Virgen del Rosario has more than 400 years old in this area, located 130 km from the capital city of Mendoza, which has a population of no more than 10.00 people. Each year, however, arrive around 20,000 visitors to join the festivities.
In addition to the traditional Mass in the chapel Our Lady of the Rosary of Las Lagunas, in honor of the Virgen del Rosario, the festivities will include activities such as dressage horses, rodeos and Creole skills, in addition to various artistic performances. Sometimes special activities like photographic samples of the villagers are also performed.
The place not only colored dresses to celebrate the devotion to the Virgin, but also creates an environment with a strong social stamp, which tells of the region’s history, the rogatory performed by the scarcity of water and the recovery of land that has long claimed by both the communities huarpes Redemptorist priests.
The first construction of the chapel was made in 1609, at first only sticks and ramazones carob, run by the Jesuits. Already in 1610 and dedicated to the Virgin was established in the area by the will of the Father Dominic Benitez. In 1753 the chapel had been destroyed by the passage of time, and was rebuilt with adobe.
