The image of the Virgen del Rosario (carved in baroque art) arrived in Mendoza
coming from Lima on April 15, 1590 and that was the Dominican Fr. Juan
Vázquez O.P. who brought her to our Cuyan lands.
The devotion to the Virgin was accentuated, being invoked mainly in the
cases of epidemics, earthquakes and other public scourges. With this it was done
credit to the Mendoza gratitude, gratitude that was publicly demonstrated
the town sworn by it as its Patroness in 1737.
