The Song and Melesca Festival is held every year in the town of Junin, Mendoza. The city is located 50 km from the capital city of Mendoza, and during the month of April celebrates this celebration, organized by the Commission of the Melesca and together with the Municipality of Junín. At the party candidates from different departments compete for the crown and the title of Queen Provincial Melesca.
True to its name, the festival brings together many singers and bands that follow offering some of their art to the audience. In between it takes place the election of the Queen of the Melesca, where many young people from different departments participate and assist the various queens and provincial virreinas Livestock in Drylands and vintage.
The protagonists are undoubtedly folk shows. This festival is the last vendimial calendar, and continues the theme of viticulture which is the center of Mendoza production. Food courts and craft booths are set up for people to go there and taste typical dishes of the region, and of course there are also certain regional wines.
Melesca word may sound strange for visitors to Mendoza to enjoy this party, and may have to ask what it means, and that they will not find it but look at all the dictionaries. The reason is that it is a popular word, born of the people and reflects the tradition, customs and culture of the vine. It means “The last harvest, which was on the vine” and represents the harvest “of all.” For these is said to be one of the last parties vendimial calendar.
