Provincial Students Festival takes place every year in the third week of September in various locations in the province of Mendoza. It was instituted in 2013 with the official title of provincial party, and already has more than four concretized editions. Despite being a new celebration in the provincial calendar of celebrations, it is a date with history.
The idea of the election of the Queen of Youth is related to the fact of having a representative to disseminate the issues of youth, gender, sexuality and social gains for the students struggle every day. Furthermore, the queen and viceroy elected have a responsibility to represent the province out of this, and events in other parts of the country.
Events are held in different parts of Mendoza, and include prizes for outstanding students in sports and culture, circus, contemporary dance, break dance, dance urban culture, the so-called student entertainment, music shows with bands from all over the country and also local. Sports and recreation for children from different high schools in the province activities are carried out, and in all departments there is a grid of projected activities to date.
In 2004 under President Nestor Kirchner declared September 16 as National Youth Day, in commemoration of the Night of the pencils, the name by which a series of kidnappings and murders of teenagers and young people during the last military dictatorship are known. Therefore, the motto of the party for some editions was “pencils still write”.
