* Fiesta Departamental de la Vendimia (Departmental Celebration of the Harvest)
This celebration reflects a year of work and effort of the farmers in the Department.
It begins with an election in each district, culminating with the crowning of the new departmental beauty candidate, as a result of the upcoming harvest.
* Fiesta Provincial de la Ciruela (Provincial Party of the Plum)
It takes place in the District of Bowen, in the building located on Sarmiento Street.
It is celebrated at the last weekend of February with the participation of local and national artists, with the concurrence of more than thirty thousand people.
* Fiesta Nacional de la Ganadería de las Zonas Áridas (National Celebration of the Arid Areas Cattle Breeding)
It is celebrated in the first fortnight of May. There are commercial, industrial and artisan exhibitions, cattle breeding training workshops, and guided tours, culminating in the final round with the party traditional rodeo. The art groups that make their presentations at the main stage are all of great national importance. Moreover, the ribs on the roasting spit are a must.
* Evinsur
It takes place in August and is organized by the Winemakers Centre of the Department. This event, each year, brings together the most important wine tasters and the general public interested in learning about this topic. The samples of the varietal wines from the Department are evaluated at this time. It should be noted that wines made General Alvear have received medals in competitions around the world.
* Agosto Alvearense (Alvear August)
August is the anniversary month to all Alvear people, the Department was declared official on August 12, 1914. Every year, various entities prepare the activities to festoon the cultural, tourist and sports calendar.
* Olimpíadas de la Escuela de Agricultura (Olympic Games of the College of Agriculture)
These have been done since 1965, with the participation of high schools from the Department, the Province and the Country. On some occasions there was the participation of schools from foreign countries as well. The sporting activities include volleyball, handball, basketball, athletics, and chess. In the evenings young people gather in dance clubs and cafés. These days become unforgettable for the participants.
