The Department of La Paz is in the northeast portion of the Province of Mendoza, 140 kilometres from the capital city.
It is limited in the North by Lavalle, in the South by San Rafael, in the West by Santa Rosa and in the East by the Province of San Luis.
It has a privileged location, considering it is in the Bioceanic Corridor, the route that connects the countries that are part of the Mercosur, which was a reason for the improvement of its tourist infrastructure, due to the increasing demand of services on the road.
Its economic development is based on its strategic importance, on the cattle ranch and on the agriculture.
Its temperate and desert climate provides superb conditions for the agriculture, since it causes the early appearance of the fruits and a good sugar content in its grapes and fruits.
The cattle activity is based fundamentally on the breeding of bovine and goat cattle.
In addition, the beekeeping, in La Paz finds optimal conditions for its development, due to the presence of an important native flora. Currently, 700 beehives are in operation, with the production of honey, propolis, royal jelly, pollen, fertilized queens and royal cells.
Furthermore, there is a governmental programme to improve the quality of life of the producers and inhabitants of the department. In addition, to avoid uprooting of the rural population, there are new productive activities as breeding rabbits, factories such as canvas shoes, brooms made with junquillo, a perennial grass that grows naturally in that place, sweets, canned food and also goat cold meat.
