The Department of Lujan de Cuyo is located in Center zone – to the north of Mendoza, 18 kilometres from the capital city of Province.
It is bordered on the north by Godoy Cruz, Las Heras and Maipú, on the south by Tupungato, on the east by Junín and Rivadavia, and on the west by the Republic of Chile.
It was founded as a village and its boundaries were demarcated as a department on May 11, 1855, and in 1949, this town was declared a city. The weather presents the general characteristics of the one of the province; semi-desert, with an annual temperature average of 16°C, with a maximum of 38°C and a minimum of -5°C.
The territory is divided into four geomorphologic units: the Andes in the west, with two units that are fundamental Main Range (border with Chile) and the Front Range, in addition to the foothills, and the wedge of the plain in between the ranges.
Lujan de Cuyo is a modern, progressive and steadily expanding due to its picturesque landscapes and its cultural characteristics, a real land of contrasts inviting to do tourism throughout the year.
The 14 districts are the City of Luján, Mayor Drummond, La Puntilla, Carrodilla, Chacras de Coria, Cacheuta, Potrerillos, the Industrial Zone, Vistalba, Las Compuertas, Perdriel, Agrelo, Ugarteche and El Carrizal.
Its economy is based on the agriculture, mining, hydrocarbons, metalworking and the tourism industry.
