The members of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology, are specialized in Anthropology, Archaeology and regional and environmental history, and try to approach a wide range of topics including regional, Inca, historical, mountain archeology, zooarchaeology, ethnohistory, technology, management and protection of the cultural heritage and other tasks through documentary and archaeological research.
The museum contains archaeological material from the pre and proto history of the Old and New world, with specific reference to the national territory, specially the Northwest, Cuyo and Patagonia.
It also shows the layette from the mummy found in the Aconcagua. Ethnographic materials from the northwest part of the country and folk from Cuyo complete the exhibition.
