The house belonged to former governor Francisco Civit, who lived there until 1.873. In 1.961, it was donated to the Historic Studies Board. The museum houses a fine collection of weapons from the independence time, furniture from the colonial time and several elements that show what life in Mendoza was like in the XIX century. It was declared a National Historic Monument in 1.971. At the museum, there is also the biggest library specialized in the history of Mendoza, and a complete newspaper library with papers from the Press edited in 1.820 in Mendoza.
