“Las Bóvedas” (the Vaults) were smelting furnaces that were extracted from the mines of San Lorenzo. Some studies estimate that these vaults were made at the beginning of the XVII century by the Jesuits. They also served during the Sanmartinian feat.
There is a building in a U shape, a number of furnaces that only keep the plinth, remains of a hydraulic mill with its press and a tunnel. All the construction is made of adobe.
The museum offers four halls: ‘Indigenous Culture’, ‘Smelting’, ‘Mineralogy’ and ‘Sanmartiniana’. On these halls, you can appreciate indigenous elements, blacksmith’s objects, minerals and metals from the area and mock-ups, respectively.
