The city of Mendoza has a rich repertoire of historical museums. One of the most emblematic is the Foundation Area Museum, created in 1993 on the Pedro Castillo Square. This site was named in honor of the founding of the city in 1561. It arises as an attempt to preserve the remains of the Cabildo de Mendoza, who worked in the square, which was destroyed in the great earthquake of 1861. It is located located at Alberdi and Videla Castillo.
Even closer to the center of Mendoza, in the heart of the city, is the Municipal Museum of Modern Art. It is located in central Independence Square and was opened in 1967 but moved to its current location in 1991. It has a permanent room dedicated to painting, ceramics, drawing and sculpture, an Exhibition Hall Temporary for individual or collective exhibitions Engraving Gallery and dedicated to various forms of this technique.
Also in the city center, on av. Las Heras between May 25 and Peru, is the Street Folk Museum. This particular initiative was materialized in 1993, and is a series of dioramas exposed outdoors in display cases that show the development of the great historical events that transformed the same street in the current avenue Las Heras. All dioramas were made by the artists Rodolfo Gutierrez and Eduardo Gonzalez.
Heading west, in the center of Parque Gral. San Martin, is the Museum of Natural and Anthropological Sciences “Juan Cornelio Moyano”. Recently remodeled, it is a modern museum that has many pieces dedicated to science, in addition to the feature to emphasize the regional: it has a sector dinosaur with specimens found in the province, and a section dedicated to the Inca Trail, with replicas of objects found alongside the mummy found in the Andes.
Another interesting option is to visit the Argentine Museum Antique Motorcycle “Luis Paludet”. It has about twenty motorcycles on display, and some awaiting their restoration. Models range from 1904-1957, of different models and brands. It was founded in 1981 and aims to track the context and history of each piece.
