Mendoza City is recognized internationally for its many green spaces not only serve to shelter in case of seismic activity, but also improve the quality of life of the inhabitants. The circuit of squares and parks of the city center begins in Central Park. Created in early 2000 from an old vacant, it is one of the most attractive green dots of Mendoza. It has an artificial lake, where usually cultural activities such as concerts and theater are performed and provides a space for recreation for children.
Continuing the heart of the city, we find the Plaza Independencia, the largest of the spaces, ample space, which offers children’s recreation areas, a craft fair that works most of the year and a beautiful central fountain where a stage is usually located to perform shows for the whole family. On the map, this point is the center of a symmetrical pattern formed by the four green spaces surrounding four-block radius: Plaza Italia, with Spain, Chile and San Martin.
The Plaza Italia is the annual venue of the festival in Piazza, an event which celebrates Italian culture with exhibitions of typical dishes, entertainment and shows. It has important sculptures and friezes and majolica works with Italian motifs. Plaza Spain, on the other hand, is the annual site of the Feast Festivities cultural celebration which also offers traditional cuisine, shows and various attractions. The plaza has a distinct Iberian aesthetic decoration of the nineteenth century and its own central source of the old Spanish patios.
Following the tributes to representative nations, the third space is the Plaza Chile. This is also home to a major annual event, the Festival of the Argentine-Chilean Brotherhood. With food and traditional cultural expressions, it is held annually in September in the square which was created to honor the neighboring nation for their assistance to the people of Mendoza during the earthquake of 1861. Finally, Plaza San Martin is the only one that does not have a central fountain, where there is a statue of Gen. place. San Martin. However, there are pools of water nearby, and lush vegetation.
Finally, the tour takes us first to Centennial Park, located in Pedro Molina and Peltier, bringing together municipal government buildings and covers a large area, showing its own aesthetic of modern urbanism. Lastly Gen. Park. San Martin. Located at the foot of the mountain Mendoza, it is the largest in size, occupying 3.7 km2. The park gathers Mendoza important places such as the headquarters of the National University of Cuyo, the Malvinas Argentinas stadium and Racing club, which is situated on the large artificial lake, located in the center of the park. Other attractions include the Fountain of the Continents, the Rose Garden, the old Greek theater and cultural and aerobic activities that are performed daily by the lake.
