Under the development of new tourism products, in this case the footsteps of dinosaurs, a paleontological expedition took place in the area of Cañadón Amarillo. It was organized by the Municipality of San Rafael through the Regional Centre for Research and Cultural Development (CRIDC) and with the collaboration of the Rio Tinto Company. The local paleontologist Predeiro Angel headed the group, composed CRDIC staff, technicians from the National University of San Juan (Natural Science Museum), Museo Bernardino Rivadavia city of La Plata and the Museum of Natural History of San Rafael . Through these campaigns in the area, have finalized a series of findings that are showing the possibility of rebuilding paleofuana that evolved over 90 million years ago. The findings became apparent after 5 days of recognition and search, and the fossils found are “Titanosaurs” (long-necked herbivores), plus some teeth crocodile species, turtles, eggs, corresponding to teeth carnivorous dinosaurs . Through excavations were extracted parts of a skeleton Titanosaurio, such dimensions that correspond to a copy of 35 meters in length and 50 tonnes in weight. Researchers thanked the company Rio Tinto, who worked with cranes for removal and transfer of parts, previously covered with plaster immobilization. Agustín Martinelli, CRIDC paleontologist, noted that all the remains found are from animals that died on the banks of large rivers, and dragged the floods were disarticulated skeletons and decomposing over time. These findings will help to reconstruct the time of the ancestors of these giants that inhabited the southern San Rafael department more than 90 million years ago.
