The tour of the Telegraph Road, also called Old Route 13 begins at the municipal Barrio de Las Heras. It is an old road that not many people know, and recently is being revitalized by some adventurous cyclists who choose cross it and know its beauties. It is a path practically not traveled, but holds a lot of history Mendoza, attractions that are testimony to the tradition, and challenges that require will and physical fitness.
Ideally, do it by bicycle, for which takes four days, so the tour can only be done between December and January. But if you prefer to go by car, you can only travel the road in 4×4 because of the difficulty of the terrain, taking only one day.
The tour begins in the Municipal District of Las Heras, where the Provincial Route 13. After 10 km of road in the foothills takes you reach the Water Since Chilcas. Formerly a post of animals, but is now a camping. If continued, the so-called “snails” are crossed to reach the first monolith, a stone located at 2000 meters.
Nearby is up to a place called by the villagers as House, a telegraph former power that gives name to the path and which now serves as a place of animals. Later, at 3200 meters, it is a second monolith. Then begins the descent to reach the call Lagoon Crabs, being full of small crabs. This place has a great beauty, and the lake is fed by a natural spring.
The second day cruise begins a climb to the Cuesta de Bonilla, at 3000 meters, then get to the Cerro de los Siete Colores, showing red and ocher tones. If you continue, you reach the village of Uspallata, which has a campsite where you can camp. Nearby are the remains of the old mine Paramillos, a name that has the route that joins there with 13. The mine is a place steeped in history, and on the roof there are ruins of an old Indian cemetery, which has the grave Gaucho Cubillos symbolic.
The third day is on the road to Cerro Tunduqueral, which has interesting ancient petroglyphs. Upon arriving at Villavicencio and the return, which is intended for fourth day it is undertaken. In that last day commuting it becomes through the Provincial Route 7, to finish in the Park Gral. San Martin, and in the city of Mendoza.
