What began in 1938 as “blessing of the harvest” managed to summon thousands of people from Mendoza who did not want to miss the ritual and the words of Monsignor José Verdaguer, who blessed the paila de fruta in the Rotunda of the beautiful Parque General San Martín in Mendoza.
The gratitude is given to God for the harvest and the new wine is offered under the evocation of the Virgen de la Carrodilla, patron saint of the vineyards. This is how the new fruits are blessed, which will soon be processed and put into barrels so that the wise time and the waiting of the men do the rest.
The Blessing of Fruits was born in the third edition of the Vintage. From that moment, the Virgin is carried on a litter by the crowd and venerated at every step. Brought by Antonio Solanilla from Aragón, Spain, his presence ensures a good harvest for the people of Mendoza every year.
This celebration takes place the last weekend of February.
The location of the Blessing of the Fruits can vary of locality every year, since it is framed in the Celebrations of the National Celebration of the Harvest.
The activity is free.
