The Vinandino is a competition held annually in Mendoza, since the last edition of 2015 in conjunction with the Malbec to the world, of a similar nature, although the latter oriented more specifically to the malbec variety. Both they take place under the motto “The great contests Argentina” and seek to disseminate the products of the industry in each region, encouraging wine production and adding commercial value to the most distinguished wines.
It was created in 1993 by the National Institute of Viticulture (INV) and the Association of Professionals in Enology and Food of Argentina (APEAA), and contrary to all expectations, thanks to the union of both competitions in the last edition 630 samples were presented from 10 different countries. The event also has the support of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) and the International Union of Winemakers (UIOE).
The jury analyzed samples is composed of Argentina and other Latin American countries (Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay) experts and also Europe (Spain and France) as well as the press. The event national officials and representatives of wine organizations across the province participate. Of course: all samples analyzed and tasted, winners receive the “Gold Medal” and “Silver Medal” corresponding defined.
The whole competition also includes various training sessions, including technical talks and lectures in different parts of Mendoza. They are usually free and open to the general public, and conclude with a mega tasting the variety of Malbec, both national (and provincial) and other corners of the world.
