The Malacara Volcano is located 35 km to the southeast of the city of Malargüe, and 40 km before reaching the reserve Laguna Llancanelo. The volcano has a height of 1800 meters, and its name comes from the resemblance of his face stained with spots of horses called “Malacara”.
The volcanic eruption was hydro magmatic, which occurs when the lava comes in contact with water. Erosion and wear caused wind and water gave rise to passages, gullies (potholes produced by water as rain) and chimneys that reach 30 meters high, and can be visited by entering into the volcano.
It is one of the few volcanoes in the area, rich in volcanic activity and mountain formations, which can be visited on the inside, as the volcano ceased to be active for many years. The crater has yellow and orange tones due to water in its eruption, forming a precious landscape.
From the Place La Batra, located at the foot of the volcano, horseback riding, trips are made by 4×4 and trekking, to explore the place. The volcano has three craters and has several important gullies such as “bridges”, “Tito Alba” and the “dark gullies”. If you want to continue the tour, you can visit a viewpoint from which the lagoon Llancanelo noted, the Andes and Reserve Payunia with its attractive earthy colors and volcanic landscapes.
