The Overo Volcano is located steps away from the El Sosneado district, on the source of the Atuel River. The place is accessed through Route n ° 144, and then taking route 220 from the center of the district. It is a geological formation that is over 4,600 meters high, and is located in the Andes Mountains.
El Overo is an inactive volcano, and is therefore crowned by eternal glaciers. It is visited annually by many climbers who seek to base and scale it, so it is an ideal place to perform superior climbing. The path of the volcano leads to a sulfur refinery, located at the base, which worked until a few years ago but today is abandoned. Anyway, it is possible to visit the ruins.
His training took place, according to specialists, in the pliocene or quaternary. In the age before the glacial the central cone was formed, with basaltic lava spills and conglomerate formation. Due to the erosion caused by the passing of the years, nowadays its appearance is a bit more flattened, and it has snow spots on its slopes.
